He confides in a friend, Dianne Vargas, and discovers that she is a private investigator and can handle the danger. They cannot do this on their own and team up with Sheriff Buckmaster who is heading the official search.

They agree to be the bait to draw out the killer. During a rainstorm, they take shelter in a cabin known to the killer, and MJ discovers that his partner is a trans female. Although surprised, MJ finds that he has fallen in love with her.
