Diary of an Ant is the first English language translation of Cín lae seangáin agus scéalta eile, the critically acclaimed, award-winning collection of short stories by Dublin-born author Tomás Mac Síomóin. With his cultural roots in Ireland 's Gaelic West, Mac Síomóin takes a darkly humorous look at the failure and the innate dishonesty of most inter-human relating against a backdrop of ultimate absurdity that he sees as underlying all human experience.

Author Biography

Tomás Mac Síomóin was born in Dublin, Ireland. A doctoral graduate of Cornell University, he has worked as a biological researcher and university lecturer in the USA and Ireland. An Irish speaker, he is actively involved in the promotion of the language, working as a journalist, as editor of the newspaper Anois and, for many years, he was editor of the literary and current affairs magazine Comhar. His Cinn Lae Seangáin ("The Diary of an Ant") won the award for best short story collection in the Oireachtas 2005 competition, while the following year his novel An Tionscadal ("The Project") won the main Oireachtas literary award. His poems, stories, articles and translations from Catalan and Spanish have appeared in diverse publications. His work has been translated into many languages, including German, Slovenian, Romanian and Catalan. He now lives and works in Catalonia.
