Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali polymath who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. Gitanjali (Song Offerings), Gora (Fair-Faced), and Ghare-Baire (The Home and the World) are among his best-known works. Gitanjali is a collection of 103 poems. This volume became very famous in the West and was widely translated. The poetry is metaphysical talking about a union with the supreme being. The poems also speak of the union of two earthly lovers.
