Hunter College served as a training facility during World War II, and Mark Twain, Theodore Roosevelt's family, and Arturo Toscanini once lived at Wave Hill. Pres. John F. Kennedy's boyhood home is only steps from Wave Hill, and George Washington slept at the Van Cortlandt Mansion. Northwest Bronx features an array of vintage photographs of the borough's neighborhoods, from Spuyten Duyvil, Kingsbridge, Riverdale, and Woodlawn to the neighborhoods north of Fordham Road and west of the Bronx River.
