Secret of Heathcote Manor - Paperback

by David Weller (Author)

A boy. A portal. A father history says must die.

What if saving your father meant traveling four centuries into the past?

Thirteen-year-old Wilfie Ferrers thinks his biggest mystery is why his mum cries alone at night in the rose garden. Then a ghostly Cavalier appears on the grounds of the grand manor next door - and vanishes into thin air.

When Wilfie discovers a time portal hidden in the Rose Walk, the truth tumbles out: his mother isn't just the estate manager of Heathcote Manor. She was its lady - in 1645. And the ghost? That's his father, Sir John Ferrers, a Royalist soldier condemned to die by firing squad after the Siege of Colchester.

Armed with a history book, a borrowed costume, and more courage than common sense, Wilfie steps through the portal and into the English Civil War. Suddenly he's dodging cannon fire, outwitting Roundhead soldiers, and racing against time to save a father who doesn't yet know his son exists.

But history has already written Sir John's fate. Can Wilfie rewrite it?
