by Alonzo H. Quint (Author)

Follow one Massachusetts regiment from the first call to arms to the long road home. Names, dates, lives at war. Alonzo H. Quint's The Record of the Second Massachusetts Infantry, 1861-65 captures the human scale of the American Civil War 1861-1865, pairing sober narrative with the hard facts that history depends upon, in a voice shaped close to the war's aftermath. Part civil war regimental history, part union army unit records archive, it traces the unit's formation, movements, and losses while anchoring the story in service and muster rolls. For researchers it stands as a military roster reference book and a dependable civil war history reference: a complete civil war roster of officers and men, set out for verification and comparison across campaigns and postings. It is equally valuable for genealogy and service records, for anyone tracking Massachusetts troops in Union service, and for readers seeking a grounded account of New England Civil War experience through the lens of the second massachusetts infantry. A cornerstone title for collectors of Union regimental histories collection, Quint's volume preserves documentation that might otherwise blur into legend, keeping individual service visible within the wider national struggle. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure.
