Identity matters! Has your child ever struggled with loving their name and embracing the fullness of the meaning?
Makeda is a girl with a very big name-- a legacy, but she is not happy with her unusual sounding moniker. Even though her name is a reflection of her heritage she is not quite satisfied. So she defies tradition and goes on a journey of self-exploration. Can she find contentment with who she discovers along the way?
This singular and humorous tale about a precocious girl explores women in mathematical fields, Ethiopian history, African-American culture, self-esteem and empowerment, as well as multi-generational relationships. The author hopes it will help children see the importance of embracing who they are.
